How Finland scores
Where the top 25 come from, and how the whole Finnish market sits against the global universe. StockRank is a global percentile, so the universe splits evenly into five bands by construction; a market that piles up on the right is scoring well as a whole.

After Nokia: Forests, Machines and the Retail Bid
Finland is the only Nordic country in the euro, a market built on forests, machines and telecoms that has spent twenty years diversifying away from the company that once was half of it. Helsinki lists the world's largest elevator maker, its largest pulp and paper groups, cranes, mining equipment, ship engines and a retail investor base that owns more of its own market than almost any other in Europe. The list below is where Quality, Value and Momentum agree.
MoatMap scored 141 Finnish stocks on 2026-09-25; 77 cleared the $250M market-cap floor this list applies. The market's average StockRank is 60. Industrials is the most represented sector in the top 10 (6 names).
Nokia was once close to seventy percent of the Helsinki exchange, and the twenty years since its decline have turned Finland into an unusually balanced market. The largest names today are industrial: Kone in elevators, Wartsila in ship engines and power plants, Metso in mining equipment, Konecranes and Cargotec in lifting, Valmet in pulp machinery. Beside them sit the forest groups, UPM, Stora Enso and Metsa Board, whose scores swing with pulp and paper prices; Neste, which turned an oil refiner into the world's largest renewable-diesel producer; Nordea, the largest Nordic bank, which moved its headquarters to Helsinki; and a bench of consumer, software and healthcare mid caps. The Quality pillar tends to find the machinery companies, which earn steady returns through service contracts; the Value pillar tends to find the forest groups near the bottom of their cycle.
Finland has a distinctive shareholder base. Households own a larger share of the domestic market than in most of Europe, through a savings culture and a listed-company tradition that goes back to the state's industrial holdings, and the state itself still holds stakes in Neste, Fortum, Finnair and others through its ownership arm. Retail participation makes the mid caps better followed than their size would suggest, and it also means Finnish companies pay out generously: the market's dividend culture is one of the strongest in Europe, which shows up in the shareholder-yield component of Value.
Disclosure follows the EU Market Abuse Regulation and MoatMap reads the Helsinki filings through the Nordic feed. Persons discharging managerial responsibilities must report trades within three business days, and the notifications carry the person, the role, the instrument, the volume and the price; buybacks file as aggregated daily or weekly reports. The director-buying and buyback callouts below the table draw on the Helsinki rows. A few Swedish companies keep a Helsinki line (SSAB, Telia, Ericsson), and Tallink, the Estonian ferry operator, lists here as its home market; they appear on this page where they clear the screen.
Access is straightforward: Nasdaq Helsinki is available through most international brokers, settlement is in euros, and a euro-based investor carries no currency risk at all, which is the practical difference between Finland and its Nordic neighbours. Finland withholds 35% on dividends paid to non-residents by default, reduced to the treaty rate (usually 15%) when the broker registers the holder correctly, so it is worth confirming that your custodian applies the treaty at source rather than leaving you to reclaim.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What are the best Finnish stocks to buy right now?
- The table above ranks MoatMap's top 25 Nasdaq Helsinki stocks by StockRank, a composite of Quality (ROIC, F-Score, leverage), Value (P/E, EV/EBITDA, P/B, shareholder yield) and Momentum (price trend plus earnings revisions). It refreshes monthly with a stated data date, and each ticker links to a full score breakdown.
- Is Finland still a Nokia market?
- No. Nokia was once close to seventy percent of the exchange; today the largest names are industrial (Kone, Wartsila, Metso), forest products (UPM, Stora Enso), Neste in renewable fuels and Nordea in banking, and the market is unusually balanced for its size.
- Does MoatMap track Finnish insider trades and buybacks?
- Yes, through the Nordic feed, which reads the MAR Article 19 notifications (person, role, instrument, volume and price, within three business days) and the aggregated buyback reports for Helsinki alongside Stockholm, Copenhagen and Iceland. The callouts on this page use the Helsinki rows.
- Why do Finnish stocks pay such high dividends?
- A strong household shareholder base and a listed-company tradition rooted in the state's old industrial holdings have made Finland one of the highest-payout markets in Europe. That shows up in the shareholder-yield component of the Value score, so read a high Finnish Value rank with the payout ratio in mind.
- How can foreigners buy Finnish stocks?
- Nasdaq Helsinki is available through most international brokers and settlement is in euros, so a euro investor carries no currency risk. Finland withholds 35% on dividends to non-residents by default, reduced to the treaty rate when the custodian registers the holder correctly, so confirm that yours applies the treaty at source.
- How often does this Finland ranking refresh?
- A new edition forms on the first scoring run of each calendar month and the page states its data-as-of date. Underlying scores recompute nightly; for the daily view, use the ranked-stocks screener filtered to Finland.
