Best Swedish Stocks: September 2026

Sweden has more listed companies per head than any other country in Europe and an equity culture to match: tax-advantaged savings accounts, a retail investor base that follows small caps, and a corporate model built on serial acquirers, investment companies and founder-family control. It is the deepest stock market MoatMap covers outside the big five, and it is priced as a quality market. MoatMap scores 450+ Nasdaq Stockholm names, and the list below is where Quality, Value and Momentum agree.

MoatMap scored 451 Swedish stocks on 2026-09-11; 288 cleared the $250M market-cap floor this list applies. The market's average StockRank is 56. Financial Services is the most represented sector in the top 10 (3 names).

Investment Companies, Share Classes and the Quality Premium

Three features of the Swedish market shape what a screen surfaces. The first is the investment company: Investor, Industrivärden, Creades, Latour and their peers are listed holding companies that own controlling stakes in other listed businesses and trade at a discount or premium to their net asset value. They score well on Quality and Value by construction, because their reported earnings include unrealised gains on the portfolio, so a single-digit earnings multiple on an investment company is not what the same multiple on an operating business means. Read their discount to net asset value instead, which they publish monthly.

The second is share classes. Swedish companies commonly list A shares with ten votes and B shares with one, and sometimes C or D shares with preference-like dividends, and the two lines of one company can both clear the screen because their prices differ slightly. This page collapses them so each company occupies one slot at its better-scoring class. The third is the serial acquirer: Lifco, Indutrade, Addtech, Lagercrantz, Storskogen and dozens of smaller followers buy niche industrial businesses at low multiples and compound the cash flows, a model Sweden exports and that the Quality pillar rewards as long as the balance sheet holds.

Sweden's disclosure is among the best in the world and MoatMap reads it at the source. Persons discharging managerial responsibilities must report trades to the Financial Supervisory Authority within three business days under the EU Market Abuse Regulation, and the regulator publishes them in a searchable register the same day, with the person, the role, the instrument, the volume and the price. Buybacks are disclosed as daily aggregated reports. The director-buying and buyback callouts below the table draw on those filings through MoatMap's Nordic feed, which covers Stockholm alongside Helsinki, Copenhagen and Iceland.

The market is priced as a quality market and it moves with the krona and with rates. The krona weakened for most of a decade before recovering, so an unhedged foreign holder's return has often been dominated by the currency, and Swedish property companies and other rate-sensitive names swing with the Riksbank's cycle. Foreign access is straightforward through international brokers, Sweden withholds tax on dividends to non-residents with treaty relief, and there is no Swedish capital gains tax for most non-residents, though residency rules vary and are worth confirming.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best Swedish stocks to buy right now?
The table above ranks MoatMap's top 25 Nasdaq Stockholm stocks by StockRank, a composite of Quality (ROIC, F-Score, leverage), Value (P/E, EV/EBITDA, P/B, shareholder yield) and Momentum (price trend plus earnings revisions). It refreshes monthly with a stated data date, and each ticker links to a full score breakdown.
Why do Swedish investment companies score so well?
Investor, Industrivärden, Creades and their peers are listed holding companies whose reported earnings include unrealised gains on the stakes they own, so their earnings multiples read very low in a rising market and their Quality and Value scores are high by construction. They are excellent businesses, but read their published discount or premium to net asset value rather than the P/E.
What is the difference between A and B shares?
A shares typically carry ten votes and B shares one; C and D shares are rarer classes with preference-like dividends. The lines trade at slightly different prices and can both clear the screen, so this page keeps one line per company, the higher-scoring one, and a top 25 is 25 businesses rather than 25 tickers.
Does MoatMap track Swedish insider trades and buybacks?
Yes, through the Nordic feed, which reads the Financial Supervisory Authority's insider register (MAR Article 19 filings, published within three business days) and the daily buyback reports for Stockholm, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Iceland. The callouts on this page use the Stockholm rows.
How can foreigners buy Swedish stocks, and what about the krona?
Most international brokers offer Nasdaq Stockholm access. Sweden withholds tax on dividends to non-residents, reduced under treaties, and most non-residents pay no Swedish capital gains tax, subject to residency rules worth confirming. The krona has moved enough over the past decade to dominate an unhedged foreign holder's return in some years.
How often does this Sweden ranking refresh?
A new edition forms on the first scoring run of each calendar month and the page states its data-as-of date. Underlying scores recompute nightly; for the daily view, use the ranked-stocks screener filtered to Sweden.
