Best Thai Stocks: September 2026

Thailand is the market where the index has gone nowhere for a decade while a layer of cash-generative mid caps underneath it kept earning, paying out and getting cheaper. The SET trades below where it stood years ago, foreign ownership has drifted down and local growth is slow, and the result is one of the highest-yielding, lowest-multiple exchanges in Asia. That is the condition a factor screen is built for. MoatMap scores 300+ SET names, and the list below is where Quality, Value and Momentum agree.

MoatMap scored 321 Thai stocks on 2026-09-11; 163 cleared the $250M market-cap floor this list applies. The market's average StockRank is 73. Basic Materials is the most represented sector in the top 10 (4 names).

A Sideways Index Hiding a Dividend Market

The SET index has spent most of the past ten years oscillating around the same level, and the reasons are structural rather than cyclical: an ageing population, household debt near ninety percent of GDP, trend growth of two to three percent, heavy dependence on tourism and exports, and a political cycle that has produced repeated changes of government. Foreign investors have been net sellers for years and the market has derated to match. What that leaves behind is a set of businesses that earn well through the malaise, refiners, industrial-estate developers, building-materials producers, insurers and food exporters, trading at single-digit earnings multiples with dividend yields that would be headline news in a developed market. The screen's Value pillar is where that shows up first.

Thailand's listed economy is organised around a few family and state groups, the CP, Central and TCC families and the PTT energy complex among them, so the exchange has a conglomerate character and many mid caps are subsidiaries or affiliates of a larger group. A second structural feature is the foreign-ownership limit: most Thai companies cap foreign holdings at forty-nine percent, so the same company can trade as a local line, a foreign line at a premium, and a non-voting depositary receipt that gives foreigners the dividend and price exposure without the vote. MoatMap ranks the local line only and filters the foreign and NVDR lines at the source, so a company occupies one slot on this page.

Disclosure is good on the executive side. Thai directors and executives file Form 59 with the Securities and Exchange Commission within three business days of a trade, and the register names the person, their relationship to the company, the number of shares, the average price and whether it was a purchase or a sale. Holders crossing five percent file Form 246-2. MoatMap's Thailand feed reads both public registers daily, and the director-buying callout below the table draws on the Form 59 purchases. What the feed does not yet carry is treasury-stock reports, the SET's daily buyback disclosures, so the absence of a buyback callout on this page means the data is not in the feed, not that no Thai company is repurchasing shares.

Access is straightforward by regional standards. International brokers offer SET trading, and a foreign buyer of a company at its ownership limit usually ends up holding the NVDR, which is the intended path. Dividends carry Thai withholding tax and capital gains on listed shares are generally not taxed for foreign individuals, though treaty and residency details vary and are worth confirming. The baht has been one of the steadier emerging-market currencies, moving with tourism receipts and the export cycle rather than swinging on domestic credit, which makes an unhedged Thai position less of a currency bet than an Indonesian or Indian one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best Thai stocks to buy right now?
The table above ranks MoatMap's top 25 SET-listed stocks by StockRank, a composite of Quality (ROIC, F-Score, leverage), Value (P/E, EV/EBITDA, P/B, shareholder yield) and Momentum (price trend plus earnings revisions). It refreshes monthly with a stated data date, and each ticker links to a full score breakdown.
Why has the Thai stock market gone sideways for so long?
Slow trend growth, high household debt, an ageing population, tourism dependence and political turnover have kept foreign investors selling and the index range-bound for roughly a decade. The market has derated to match. For a factor screen that is the opportunity rather than the problem: many well-run Thai companies now trade at single-digit earnings multiples with high dividend yields, and the screen's job is to separate the ones whose earnings held up from the ones that got cheap for a reason.
What are NVDRs and foreign shares on the SET?
Most Thai companies limit foreign ownership, commonly to forty-nine percent. Once the limit is reached the foreign line trades separately, often at a premium, and non-voting depositary receipts issued by the exchange let foreigners hold the economic exposure without the vote. MoatMap ranks the local line and filters the foreign and NVDR lines, so each company appears once on this page.
Does MoatMap track Thai buybacks?
Not yet. The Thailand feed covers executives' dealings and 5%-holder crossings from the Thai SEC's public registers. The SET's daily treasury-stock reports are not in the feed today, so the buyback callout on this page will be absent for Thailand until they are. A missing callout here is a data gap, not evidence of no buybacks.
How can foreigners buy Thai stocks, and what about the baht?
Most international brokers offer SET access, and a foreign buyer of a company at its ownership limit typically receives the NVDR. Thai withholding tax applies to dividends; capital gains on listed shares are generally untaxed for foreign individuals, subject to residency and treaty details you should confirm. The baht has been comparatively stable for an emerging-market currency, so the currency leg of a Thai position is smaller than in most peers.
How often does this Thailand ranking refresh?
A new edition forms on the first scoring run of each calendar month and the page states its data-as-of date. Underlying scores recompute nightly; for the daily view, use the ranked-stocks screener filtered to Thailand.
