How Turkey scores

Where the top 25 come from, and how the whole Turkish market sits against the global universe. StockRank is a global percentile, so the universe splits evenly into five bands by construction; a market that piles up on the right is scoring well as a whole.

Inflation, the Lira, and Reading Turkish Numbers

Turkey is a large, young, industrialised economy with one of the most volatile stock markets in the world: a board of more than five hundred companies, a retail investor base that grew tenfold in three years as savers fled inflation, and a currency that has lost most of its value against the dollar in a decade. Read in lira the market looks spectacular; read in dollars it is one of the cheapest anywhere. The list below is where Quality, Value and Momentum agree.

MoatMap scored 481 Turkish stocks on 2026-09-25; 185 cleared the $250M market-cap floor this list applies. The market's average StockRank is 41. Real Estate is the most represented sector in the top 10 (3 names).

The first thing to understand about Borsa Istanbul is that every number on it is quoted in a currency that has been losing value at double-digit rates. Turkish inflation ran above fifty percent for much of 2022 to 2024 and the lira fell against the dollar in every one of those years, so a company whose lira revenue doubled may have shrunk in real terms, and a share price that tripled may have lost money for a dollar-based holder. MoatMap converts every balance-sheet and cash-flow figure to dollars before scoring, and the Value pillar reads the multiples on that basis, but the growth and Momentum figures still carry the lira's signature. A strong Turkish Momentum score is worth checking against the currency chart before it is taken at face value.

The market itself is broad and industrial. The largest names are the holding companies (Koc, Sabanci), the banks (Akbank, Garanti, Isbank, Yapi Kredi), Turkish Airlines, the defence group Aselsan, the steel, cement, glass, white-goods and automotive manufacturers that make Turkey a supplier to European industry, and a large bench of food, retail and energy companies. It is family-controlled to an unusual degree: the two large holding groups own stakes across most sectors, and free floats are often small. Below the top fifty the retail investor base that arrived during the inflation years drives prices, and a factor screen can find genuinely strong exporters with dollar revenues and lira costs, the combination that has made Turkish industrial companies attractive through every currency crisis.

Disclosure runs through the Public Disclosure Platform, KAP, and MoatMap reads it directly. Under the Capital Markets Board's rules, managers and holders above five percent must notify share purchases and sales, and the notices carry the person, the role, the shares, the price range and the holding before and after; companies executing buybacks file a report every day they buy, listing every execution of the programme. Both feed the director-buying and buyback callouts below the table, and Turkish buybacks have been unusually active since the 2023 rules that let companies repurchase shares to support the price.

Access has widened: most international brokers now offer Borsa Istanbul trading, several large names trade as US ADRs, and settlement is in lira. Turkey withholds 10% on dividends paid to non-residents, reduced under treaties, and it levies no capital gains tax on listed shares held more than a year. The practical constraints are the ones the currency imposes: a lira position needs a view on the exchange rate as much as on the company, and the central bank's policy swings, from deeply negative real rates to sharply positive ones and back, have moved the whole market more than any earnings season has.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best Turkish stocks to buy right now?
The table above ranks MoatMap's top 25 Borsa Istanbul stocks by StockRank, a composite of Quality (ROIC, F-Score, leverage), Value (P/E, EV/EBITDA, P/B, shareholder yield) and Momentum (price trend plus earnings revisions). It refreshes monthly with a stated data date, and each ticker links to a full score breakdown.
How does MoatMap handle Turkish inflation and the lira?
Every balance-sheet and cash-flow figure is converted to dollars before scoring, so the Value multiples are on a dollar basis. Growth and Momentum figures still carry the lira's signature: a share price that tripled in lira may have lost money in dollars, so read a strong Turkish Momentum score against the currency chart.
Why are so many Turkish companies family-controlled?
The two large holding groups, Koc and Sabanci, own stakes across most sectors, and many listed companies are founder or family controlled with small free floats. A high Value score on a controlled company is partly a discount for that control, and thin free floats mean the retail investor base that arrived during the inflation years can move prices sharply.
Does MoatMap track Turkish insider trades and buybacks?
Yes, from the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP): the Capital Markets Board's share purchase and sale notices filed by managers and 5% holders (person, role, shares, price range, holding before and after) and the daily buyback reports that list every execution of a programme. The callouts on this page draw on them.
How can foreigners buy Turkish stocks, and what about the tax?
Most international brokers offer Borsa Istanbul access, several large names trade as US ADRs, and settlement is in lira. Turkey withholds 10% on dividends to non-residents, reduced under treaties, and levies no capital gains tax on listed shares held more than a year. The lira is the largest single risk in any Turkish position.
How often does this Turkey ranking refresh?
A new edition forms on the first scoring run of each calendar month and the page states its data-as-of date. Underlying scores recompute nightly; for the daily view, use the ranked-stocks screener filtered to Turkey.
