How Netherlands scores

Where the top 25 come from, and how the whole Dutch market sits against the global universe. StockRank is a global percentile, so the universe splits evenly into five bands by construction; a market that piles up on the right is scoring well as a whole.

A Global Board with a Dutch Address

Amsterdam is the oldest stock exchange in the world and one of the most international: a market of fewer than a hundred investable companies that includes the most important semiconductor-equipment maker on earth, Europe's largest oil major, its largest consumer-goods group and its largest steelmaker, several of which keep their registered office elsewhere and their primary listing here. The list below is where Quality, Value and Momentum agree.

MoatMap scored 81 Dutch stocks on 2026-09-25; 72 cleared the $250M market-cap floor this list applies. The market's average StockRank is 63. Industrials is the most represented sector in the top 10 (3 names).

The first thing to understand about Amsterdam is how many of its largest listings are Dutch by listing rather than by passport. Shell and Unilever are English companies with primary listings in Amsterdam and London, ArcelorMittal and Aperam are Luxembourg companies, DSM-Firmenich is Swiss, CVC is a Jersey partnership, and several others have moved their registered office for tax or governance reasons while keeping the Amsterdam line as their home market. This page does not filter them out. Unlike the foreign quote lines on the Frankfurt or Mexico City boards, these are the exchange's own primary listings, and a list of the best Dutch stocks that left out Shell and ASML's suppliers would describe a different market from the one a reader can trade.

Underneath the multinationals the Dutch market has a distinct character. ASML, ASM International and BESI make Amsterdam the centre of the European semiconductor-equipment industry, and their scores move with the chip cycle rather than with the Dutch economy. Alongside them sit payment and fintech names, a large listed-real-estate sector, several chemicals and materials businesses, and the banks and insurers that rebuilt after 2008. The AEX is small enough that a factor screen reaches most of it, and the mid-cap AMX and small-cap AScX indices are where the Quality pillar finds businesses that coverage rarely reaches.

Disclosure follows the EU Market Abuse Regulation and MoatMap reads the Dutch register directly. Persons discharging managerial responsibilities must report trades to the AFM within three business days, and the regulator publishes them with the person, the role, the instrument, the volume and the price. Buybacks are disclosed as weekly aggregated reports on the Euronext company-news feed, and Amsterdam issuers are among the most diligent filers of daily-VWAP tables in Europe, so the buyback callout below the table is well populated. Both feed the director-buying and buyback marks on this page through MoatMap's Euronext feed.

Access is straightforward: Euronext Amsterdam is available through most international brokers, the largest names also trade as US ADRs, and settlement is in euros. The Netherlands withholds 15% on dividends, one of the lower rates in Europe, and several of the largest Amsterdam-listed companies pay from an English or Luxembourg entity under different rules, so the withholding on a Dutch portfolio depends on which line you own. Confirm the treatment with your broker before comparing yields across the list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best Dutch stocks to buy right now?
The table above ranks MoatMap's top 25 Euronext Amsterdam stocks by StockRank, a composite of Quality (ROIC, F-Score, leverage), Value (P/E, EV/EBITDA, P/B, shareholder yield) and Momentum (price trend plus earnings revisions). It refreshes monthly with a stated data date, and each ticker links to a full score breakdown.
Why does this page include Shell and other companies registered abroad?
Because their primary listing is Amsterdam. Shell, Unilever, ArcelorMittal, Aperam and DSM-Firmenich keep a registered office elsewhere but trade on Euronext Amsterdam as a home market, unlike the foreign quote lines on the Frankfurt or Mexican boards that MoatMap does filter out. A Dutch list without them would not describe the market a reader can buy.
Why do Dutch semiconductor stocks dominate the Momentum column?
ASML, ASM International and BESI make Amsterdam the centre of European chip-equipment manufacturing, and their earnings revisions and price trends follow the global semiconductor cycle rather than the Dutch economy. When the cycle turns up they cluster at the top of the Momentum ranks; when it turns down they leave the list together.
Does MoatMap track Dutch insider trades and buybacks?
Yes, through the Euronext feed. Directors' dealings come from the AFM's MAR Article 19 register (person, role, instrument, volume and price, within three business days) and buybacks from the weekly aggregated reports on the Euronext company-news feed, where Amsterdam issuers are among Europe's most diligent filers of daily tables.
How can foreigners buy Dutch stocks?
Euronext Amsterdam is available through most international brokers, the largest names trade as US ADRs, and settlement is in euros. The Netherlands withholds 15% on dividends, but several of the largest Amsterdam listings pay from an English or Luxembourg entity under different rules, so confirm the treatment for each line with your broker.
How often does this Netherlands ranking refresh?
A new edition forms on the first scoring run of each calendar month and the page states its data-as-of date. Underlying scores recompute nightly; for the daily view, use the ranked-stocks screener filtered to the Netherlands.
